Rescue

Personal Flotation Devices
(PFD's) - one PFD1 lifejacket for each
person, in good condition, readily accessible and large enough to fit crew and passengers.
Small sizes are made for children and i you take your dog to sea with you don't forget it needs a PFD
also. Specially made PFD's for animals are available.

Fire Extinguisher - fully charged, readily
accessible.

Distress Flares - in date, correct type,
readily accessible.

Anchors and Line - type suitable for seabed
conditions in area of operation, sufficient length of line for water depth.

Bilge Pump - electric bilge pump operable, and have
an alternative method available.

Navigation Lights - tested and operable.

Battery - fully charged, securely fastened down.

Alternate Propulsion - auxiliary motor, oars or
paddles.

Compass - especially if going 'offshore'.

First Aid Kit - a commercial
unit or make up your own.

Marine Radio
- mandatory if you go more than 2 miles
offshore, however is a 'must have' for 'logging on' to a Marine Rescue base and is useful for
obtaining updates on weather or calling for assistance within estuaries or navigable
rivers.

Toolkit - suitable for minor repairs appropriate to
your vessel type.

Sharp Knife
- don't rely on your trusty old fishing
knife. You may be on a family outing without the fishing gear onboard.

Fresh Water, don't risk
dehydration, carry 2 litres for every person on board.

EPIRB - strongly recommended if
you go 'offshore' on a regular basis.

GPS - a marine GPS enables you
to find your favourite fishing spot every time but a GPS
position provided to Marine Rescue also enables a rescue crew to
find you day or night should the need arise
